Archery beginner’s courses information

Our Archery beginner’s courses are a great introduction to archery, that is a fantastic sport for people of all ages. Woking Archery Club offers a number of training courses throughout the year.  Why a training course?  Archery is one of the safest sports but there is always the risk of injury either from incorrect technique, equipment failure or misuse.  It is very important to learn about the equipment you use. How to shoot with other archers and the correct technique. We also provide an introduction to a number of different bow types. From the traditional longbow to the compound. Our courses are great for Adults and Children, see below for further details.

We run our archery beginner’s courses on selected dates from February until December. All of the courses are pre-booked to ensure a good ratio between coaches and candidates. The courses are organised in three formats although all deliver the same A.G.B. syllabus and over similar numbers of hours of training.  The  3-2-1-Intensive format delivers the course over a Saturday and Sunday in one weekend.  The BST Eve format delivers the course over three evenings during summer months only and the SATx3 Format delivers the course over three consecutive Saturday mornings.

Younger Children

Due to the participant to coach ratios, our standard courses are unsuitable for children under the age of 8. We restrict attendance to two under 12s on any one course. The coaches can sometimes make exceptions for families and friendship groups. We will do our best to accommodate enquiries from parents/guardians of younger children keen to try archery. Due to the nature of the archery and the potential safety hazards. Parents should be aware that, some young children will not necessarily have the appropriate skills and attention span to benefit fully from the sport. We must be mindful of our other archers in considering their inclusion.

Please note, a parent/guardian must be present at all times and for the duration of the course, when an under 18 is participating.

Cost

The cost of the outdoor course is £80.00.
