If you’re a WAC Junior planning on taking part in the AGB Summer Metrics then don’t forget to hand your signed score sheet into Phil Embry by next Friday (4th Sept).

Anyone can take part just shoot a Short Metric (distances according to your age) and have it signed by an adult but remember these MUST BE SHOT ON AN 80cm FACE.

An intrepid band of brave (or was that foolhardy?!) WAC archers battled the wind and rain to take part in the Andoba Double Fita Star at the weekend.

Andrea led the Ladies Compound field from the start to win first place over the two days and Eleanor, entered as a Senior Lady, finished a gallant fourth Lady Recurve. Both won beautiful cut crystal vases as keep-sakes.

WAC was also represented by Louise & Harvey, Jane & Matt, Chris Mott, Mark & Candy, Paul Jay and Louisa who, shooting her first ever Ladies Fita, was able to claim her first Senior Fita Star. Well done to everyone for their camaraderie – you all did us proud!

Eleanor has returned from her first International shooting for Great Britain in Rome and finished the highest placed GB Cadet Girl. Following the initial ranking round she was unfortunately drawn against her GB team mate but, on beating her, then found herself drawn against the fourth seeded Slovakian who was on her fifth international trip and the last as a cadet before becoming a junior the following week. Much to her GB team mates’ delight Eleanor took her to a tie break where she unfortunately lost by 1cm as she shot a nine and her target companion a ten!

In the Team round she and her team mates beat USA but then lost to Poland to end up in the Bronze medal match where they narrowly missed out on a medal to come a commendable fourth place.

She had a wonderful time and was also able to spend a day sightseeing in Rome itself and is looking forward to seeing all her WAC friends back at the field.

Four of WAC’s juniors produced an impressive medal haul at the Junior National Outdoor Championships on 4th and 5th July!

At the Junior World Archery Star on the Saturday, Eleanor won Gold on the Girls Recurve M2, Chris Silver on the Gents Compound 1440, Louisa Bronze on the Girls M4 and James was 4th on the Gents Recurve M3. In addition Eleanor was part of the victorious England team, James the Silver medal SCAS Gents Team and Louisa the Gold medal SCAS Girls Team.

At the Junior National Championships on the Sunday their medal haul was even higher! Eleanor again won Gold on the Girls Recurve Bristol 2, Chris Silver on the Gents Compound York, Louisa Bronze on the Girls Recurve Bristol 4 with James adding a Bronze on the Gents Recurve Bristol 3. James, Louisa and Eleanor won Silver for Surrey in the County competition and Louisa was also part of the Gold medal SCAS regional team.

Wow!

WAC’s own Eleanor Piper has been selected to represent Great Britain in the second leg of the European Youth Cup and will fly out to Rome on Sunday 12th July. This is tremendous recognition of Eleanor’s hard work and current performance but her selection would not have been possible without years of support from both individuals and the club as a whole.

So a big thank you to everyone that has helped her thus far and an even bigger “Good Luck” to Eleanor!

This is a national postal competition that any junior shooting any bow type can enter by simply shooting down at the club and getting an adult to score!

• When? Any time during July and August with your scores with Phil Embury our Records Officer NO LATER than Friday 4th Sept
• Who? Absolutely anyone under 18 who has been scored by an adult. Your age group is your age on 30th June so birthdays in July or Aug will not mean that you have to change distance

Any questions just ask any member of the committee or jump on a target with someone else who is taking part!

Nine of Surrey finest archers trotted up to Lilleshall at the weekend to take part in the AGB National County Team Championships aka The Midsummer Event and five of them were from WAC!

The Ladies Recurve team of Eleanor Piper, Donna Mills (Rivernook) and Barbara Littlechild (Royal Richmond) came a very commendable 10th out of 15 teams, the Gents Recurve team of Roy Watts, Paul Jay and Richard White (Chessington) came a brilliant 7th out of 15 teams and the Gents Compound team of Matt Tuck, Chris Woodgate and Richard Creasy (Nonsuch) were superb too!
