Please come along and support them on Wed 4th October at 7.15pm at the H G Wells centre if you can. It’s a great evening that celebrates Woking sports in all its guises and there is a bar available both before and after the event so it’s a really great evening out too.
(Louisa is also short-listed in the Young Sports Personality of the Year category.)
A brief update with the May results and names for the June draw.
Congratulations to WAC OnTarget team of Sammie James, Andy Hopkins, James Woodgate and Roy Watts who narrowly missed out by just one point on a victory over CMO on Sunday.
A particular well done to James and Andy for winning all of the recurve matches and to Sammie for great shooting, the first time she has shot anywhere other than Woking!
Roy and Sammie pushed the “giggle factor” up to an impressive 8 out of 10 assessment and the team wishes to extend its thanks to CMO for putting on a great spread and for providing excellent hospitality.
Next year eh?!
It was a glorious day for the Surrey Longbow Shoot that was held at Woking AC club on Saturday.
Thank you to all at WAC who worked hard to lay on a great event and to all the archers from around the county (and beyond) that took part!
Congratulations to Candy Schofield for her award of a Silver Plaquette presented at the ArcheryGB AGM in recognition of her work with the Archery GB event team, particularly at the 2016 European Championship at Nottingham.
Honoured at ArcheryGB AGM
A huge WAC well done to Chris Woodgate who is this year’s BUCS Indoor Gent Compound Champion.
Finishing second in the Fita 18 qualifying round with 572, Chris won his first round H2H match with 145pts to set up a semi-final with the number 3 seed (who went onto win Bronze). Another 145pt score saw Chris safely into the Gold medal match which he secured with a consistent 144pts to win by 3pts.
Overall his Warwick Uni compound team were second out of eight UK teams from as far afield as Edinburgh to Portsmouth and Aberystwyth to Kent!
Calling all WAC members, notice is hereby given of our AGM which will take place on Saturday 22nd April at 6.30pm at Quicks Archery, Apps Court Farm, Hurst Rd, Walton-on-Thames KT12 2EG.
It is also the time of year when we elect our new committee so if you would like to nominate someone or stand yourself please let us know by 6th April. (If you haven’t received Sue’s email containing the nomination forms please email Sue for another copy.)
Hope to see you there!
Ask Eleanor who slipped over in the mud at Pentref last weekend and had to wash her trousers in the shower to get the mud off (sorry Premier Inn!). Having rained heavily overnight into Sunday it then rained all Sunday afternoon but that didn’t stop the fun or Louisa from claiming her third U15 Red Peg National Record. Eleanor, despite having such cold hands that her target companions actually had to put on her finger sling and tab for her, managed to finish as leading Senior Lady.
If you have ever fancied Field Archery we cannot recommend a trip to Pentref highly enough, it really is the most amazing club with a wonderful field archery heritage and their catering is truly famous (we’ll be going back in Sept just for another homemade chicken and leek pie and another couple of slices of homemade bread and butter pudding)!
(See if you can spot Louisa in the top of the second picture!)
Once again Woking AC Beginners put in a great showing in an AGB Postal event with our very own Sammie James topping the table in the Ladies Beginners Compound and Angus Wilson topping the Gents Senior Barebow – well done both!
In the Gents Compound class of 181 archers, Matt Tuck put in a whopping 588 to claim 13th place. This is a huge result when you realise that the top two scores tied at 598 and the top eleven scores were all 590 or above. Well done Matt!
In the Gents Beginners Recurve we had four entries, well done to Tony Thomas, Andy Harper, Dominic Walker and Jo
shua Williams and also to Sheila Austin who put in her score for the Ladies Beginners Recurve. It’s great to see archers putting in scores for the first time!
Finally, a mention to our chaps who put in scores for the Gent Recurve. This class contains a staggering 684 archers from around the UK with the top scores, again a draw, at 595! Congrats therefore to Andy Hopkins whose 551 scores placed him 149th, closely followed by Ken Austin, James Woodgate and Anthony Chaddock.
